Before the war started Spain imperialized Cuba because of Cuba's natural resources. Many countries that were already imperialized wanted to imperialize others to get natural resources and to also be able to control how the other country works. The Cold War was a war that did not include a world wide fighting, but it included small proxy wars. The big picture of the Cold War was a disagreement between the Democracy and the Communism, or in country form a disagreement between the United States and the Soviet Union. A proxy war that was a result of the Cold War, one such proxy war was a small war between the United States and Cuba. This such proxy war was known around the world as the Cuban Missile Crisis, in which the Soviet Union sided with Cuba. The Cuban leader at the time, Fidel Castro was a communist, such as the Soviet Union, therefore making the Soviet Union side with Cuba. Cuba was located 90 miles from Cuba making the proxy war close to home. When the Soviet Union sided with Cuba it gave the Soviets easy access to America. The soviets wanted to bomb the United States and Cuba was in the location that they wanted to be. The Soviet Union thought that it was a great idea to pretend that the missiles were on war ships located in the seas between Florida and Cuba. With the United States attention on the war ships it would leave easy access to the United States. The United States made an agreement wit the Soviet Union so the Soviet Union would not bomb the United States. With this agreement the proxy war between the Soviet Union in Cuba and the United States or at least it created a neutral zone.
